Cuddle Up to Columbia this Winter

October 16, 2012

With temperatures falling, visitors to Columbia may need a little help keeping warm during the fall and winter…that’s where we come in!  Here are just a few ideas on how to heat up your time in Columbia over the colder months…you’ll thank us when you can feel your feet!

At Lakota Coffee, the beans are roasted fresh daily.

Take a Sip: One of the best ways to warm up is from the inside out. Grab a latté, cappuccino or hot chocolate from Lakota, where the beans are roasted fresh in-house every day; Kaldi’s (we love the chai latté!); or Coffee Zone, where the rocket fuel does exactly what you think it does.  Wrap your hands around a steaming mug and relax, or take your cup to go because it’s time to go shopping!

Bundle Up: If you show up in Columbia without your winter outerwear, you won’t be the first. Forgot your gloves, hat, even a coat? Not to worry. Head down to the Alpine Shop to grab some gear. The Alpine Shop can outfit your entire family for the coldest of days and also has a host of outdoor sporting gear from cycling to snow sports. Looking for something special? Head over to the Mustard Seed for beautiful collections of handmade scarves, gloves and more from around the world. This fair-trade shop encourages you to make a purchase with a purpose.

Get Pampered: The winter also means the stress of the holiday season, so it’s only right to let yourself relax on your next trip to Columbia. Take your relaxation to the next level with a Hot Stone Massage at Kelani Salon and Day Spa or a LaStone Massage from Riversong Spa. These treatments will make getting to that next holiday event or picking up those last things on your shopping list a piece of cake. Speaking of dessert…

Can a cool treat warm you up? Find out at Sparky’s in Columbia.

Something a Little Different: There’s a school of thought (I’m a proud member) that ice cream is actually even more delicious in the winter. Don’t believe me? At least stop and give Sparky’s Homemade Ice Cream a try. Sparky’s makes incredible, small-batch ice cream that will delight your taste buds. Go with a local favorite like lavender-honey or cake batter or choose from an ever-rotating selection of unique flavors such as chai, pumpkin pie, fresh fruit sorbets, black walnut and so many more. Sparky’s is also the only ice cream shop in town with a liquor license to create concoctions ranging from a Guinness float to a minty grasshopper; so that’s how you could warm up, right?
