Pulaski County Welcomes 2011!

January 5, 2011

Take a relaxing float trip in Pulaski County.

Pulaski County is excited for the New Year to begin!  2011 brings fantastic things to do throughout the year.

2011 marks the 150th Anniversary of the start of the Civil War.  Throughout the state, families and school groups will venture out to learn about this important time of our nation’s history.

We, in Pulaski County, are proud of our own icon, the Old Stagecoach Stop Museum, which served as a hospital during the war and is listed on the National Historic Register.  There, you’ll be greeted by tour guides, dressed in 1860 period costumes, assisting you as you travel through time at this living history museum.  Head across the Square in Waynesville to the Pulaski County Courthouse Museum where you can bang a gavel in the original courtroom or photograph a piece of the World Trade Center.

Visitors explore the Museums at Fort Leonard Wood.

Pulaski County is also home to Fort Leonard Wood, an active military post which trains all branches of the U.S. Military.  The Fort is open to the public and offers complimentary museums and a WWII Building Complex.  The Pulaski County Visitors Center produces a self guided auto tour which takes you by historical sites, walking trails and Millers Cave.

Other museums include the Dream House Dolls, the second largest Barbie distributor in the U.S.,  and the Frisco Railroad Museum in Crocker.

Enjoy a great barbecue meal in Pulaski County.

Route 66 is another big draw for our area; take our self guided tour throughout the county, mail a post card from Devil’s Elbow’s old tyme market, enjoy lunch of lip smacking BBQ or frog legs.  Check out our 66 beers on tap or dine in a cave.

As you are bundled up at home, waiting for spring, plan your vacation … away from it all.  We invite you to explore our beautiful, scenic rivers by way of canoe, raft, kayak or inner tube.  Enjoy bass, cat or trout fishing, or just glide along watching nature at its finest; turkey, turtles and deer in their natural habitat.  Several resorts from the 1930s offer cabin stays or you have your choice of RV Parks, camping and for those looking for the comforts of home there are plenty of lodging opportunities.

Events are occurring year-round: Pulaski County’s first event of the season is the Kickapoo Trace Muzzleloaders Gun and Trade Show, set for January 15th, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in St. Robert.  This unique event is held annually and visitors come from as far away as five hours to attend and participate.  Frog Fest, Railroad Days, Dixon Cow Days, ATV Rodeos are just a sampling of the family friendly events the county hosts.  Multi-day music festivals are a favorite throughout the year featuring bluegrass, rock, country, gospel.

So, as cabin fever starts to settle in, start planning your 2011 get-aways. is an excellent resource for vacation planning for destinations throughout the state of Missouri.  To learn more about Pulaski County specifically, visit our website, to learn more about our area attractions and events.
